Fire at oil depot in Jaipur; 5 killed, more then 100 injured


Five persons were killed and at least 90 people injured when a massive fire broke out in an oil depot in Sanganer area in Jaipur on Thursday night. Many of the injured are reportedly in critical condition.

All four oil containers at the depot have exploded due to the fire.

Two villages in the vicinity have been evacuated and people in one km radius have been asked to stay out. Efforts are still on to douse the fire but is not yet under control.

The Indian Oil Corporation has said that the fire broke out due to leakage in petrol pipeline. The IOC has meanwhile sent teams to Jaipur from Delhi and Mumbai.

Meanwhile, fire tenders have been sent to oil depot from Mathura.

Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot has appealed to Union Petroleum Minister Murli Deora for help; And 80 Army Jawans have been helping in the rescue operation.

The oil depot contains about 80-90 lakh litres of fuel products however, exact extent of damage has yet to be assessed.
